Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Zeebrar a full WP Umbrella replacement?
Not yet. WP Umbrella is a mature multi-site management platform with uptime monitoring, automated backups, and client reports all included. Zeebrar currently covers remote plugin management, safe version swaps, virus scanning, and site-health monitoring - and unlike WP Umbrella, we include a 5,000+ premium plugin library at no extra cost. Uptime monitoring, backups, and client reports are on our roadmap for 2026.
Which is cheaper for an agency with 15 sites?
Zeebrar's Pro tier is $149/year flat for 15 sites. WP Umbrella at €1.99/site/month runs to roughly €358/year (~$385) for the same 15 sites. Zeebrar also includes the plugin library, which would otherwise cost $100-500/year elsewhere. For plugin-heavy workflows, Zeebrar is clearly cheaper. For pure site monitoring where plugins are not a need, WP Umbrella's included feature breadth may justify the price.
Can I use both together?
Yes. Some agencies use WP Umbrella for uptime monitoring, backups, and client reporting, while using Zeebrar for plugin sourcing, installation, and version management. The GPLC Connector plugin and the WP Umbrella Monitor plugin do not conflict.
Why doesn't Zeebrar offer uptime monitoring yet?
We're shipping it in Q3 2026 and want to do it well - passive monitoring is easy, but meaningful incident alerting (de-duplication, SLA tracking, status pages) takes more engineering. In the meantime, pairing Zeebrar with a dedicated uptime tool like UptimeRobot's free tier or WP Umbrella itself covers the gap.
Does WP Umbrella include GPL plugins?
No. WP Umbrella is strictly a management platform. You source plugins yourself - either from WordPress.org, from premium vendors directly, or from a GPL distribution service like Zeebrar. That's the single biggest cost-structure difference between the two tools.

How we made this comparison

Last reviewed against wp-umbrella.com pricing and support.wp-umbrella.com feature docs

We build Zeebrar, so we know our side of this table first-hand. Claims about WP Umbrella come from its public documentation, published pricing, and feature pages, checked on the review date above. Pricing and features change - if you spot something outdated, tell us and we will correct it.

This page is written by the Zeebrar team, not generated. We do not claim WP Umbrella is a bad product - it may be the right choice for your setup. The comparison focuses on the differences that made us build Zeebrar the way we did: safety-gated installs through our own GPLC Connector, VirusTotal scanning on every plugin file, version rollback with automatic credit refunds, and a bundled plugin library instead of per-site management fees.

WP Umbrella by the numbers

  • WP Umbrella costs €1.99 per site per month: about €19.90/month at 10 sites and €59.70/month at 30 sites, before the Site Protect add-on (€2/site/month). source
  • Safe Updates creates a restore point and checks status codes, with optional visual regression - but the restore covers only the plugin folder involved in that update, not an arbitrary version history. source
  • Security is CVE/vulnerability detection via the Patchstack database - a different mechanism from scanning plugin files themselves for malware before install. source
  • Uptime checks are configurable between 2 and 30 minutes per site. source
  • PHP error monitoring with full backtraces is a genuine WP Umbrella strength that Zeebrar does not offer today. source
  • No premium plugin library is included - WP Umbrella manages plugins you license elsewhere. source

What we tested ourselves

  • Walked the exact Zeebrar flow this page describes, in July 2026: browsed the live catalog (5,200+ plugins at review time), opened a plugin page with its scan status and version history, and used the Install to Site dialog against connected WordPress sites.
  • Every screenshot on this site is captured from the real Zeebrar dashboard, not a mockup.
